Vision
Our vision is to provide the very best education so that your child reaches, or exceeds, his/her predicted grades. This will be achieved in a safe and supportive environment in which everyone is valued and can make positive contributions to our school community. We will become the first choice school for parents and pupils in Waltham Abbey. Eventually your child will leave us to become responsible and independent members of our wider town and community. Our vision is based upon five aims.
Development of your child
Our first aim is to care for your child and to ensure his/her various needs are met. You will have a minimum of three communications from school each year. In each communication you will be told your child’s progress towards achieving his/her target grade. You will have one Academic Review Day and two reports per year. Please contact us if you have concerns or worries. You will receive a reply to your questions / concerns within 24 hours. SMT will be available to speak with you Tuesday - Thursday 7:30 - 8:15am.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, as promoted by the DCSF, within all aspects of our work at King Harold.
High Academic Standards
All pupils will have targets set, based upon their prior attainment, that the top 20% of schools achieve – these are Fischer Family Trust Band ‘D’ targets. Your child’s progress against these targets will be formally measured three times a year. You will receive a communication from us detailing progress. This will also be available on the internet via a secure website in which you will see only your child’s information.
This year we have raised the standards of 5 A-C (including English and Maths) by 10% to 36%. We have also increased the percentage of students gaining 5 A-C grades at GCSE by 19% to a total of 52%. We have met and exceeded our Local Authority targets.
Learning for Life
We aim to give your child a love of learning so that he/she will continue to learn throughout his/her life. We will give them different learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. At King Harold all staff are encouraged to continue with their professional development: we are a learning community. We aim to equip your children with all the skills, ability and knowledge so that they can succeed in life.
Technology
We will use modern technology to teach and motivate your child. Each classroom has industry standard ICT equipment that teachers use in order to use a wide variety of different learning resources. We have spent £200,000 on this vital equipment. We have found the interactive whiteboards to be effective in motivating students and consequently raising standards. You will have access to our management system to see your child’s grades, attendance and behaviour 24/7. Our website will provide more details about events at school.
Collaboration
We are a National Challenge Trust School and are part of the Kemnal Trust. This gives us unique opportunities and resources to work together with the other three schools in the Trust under the guidance of a National Leader of Education – Mr John Atkins to raise standards for your child.
In conclusion, we have raised standards at Key Stage 3 and 4 and we will provide your child with a safe, secure learning environment in which he/she will achieve the challenging targets that we set them.
